IKIA CIP Building

DESCRIPTION

Employer: Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKIA)
place: Tehran
Planned for special reception of ordinary passengers, the CIP building is located at the edge of the apron, next to the airport’s main terminal and along with the crew terminal and the VIP terminal. Because of the location of the building in the site, low height buildings, no natural features around, and adequate external view on the landside and airside of the terminal, the volume of the CIP building is defined as an entirely closed introvert cube containing another transparent cube.
Conforming to the main exit / entrance routes, two disorderly grooves, perpendicular to the airside and landside split the closed volume and reveal the transparent cube inside. While allowing adequate light into the building, the grooves create proper spacing around.
In harmony with the integrity of the exterior volume, the interior space has an integrated design with sufficient sight and depth. Adequate light, spaces, water features, and green spaces are designed under the grooves in the ceiling.
Main performance of the complex which is designed on the ground level and first floor in two side axes in a symmetrical position together from the closed volume is to receive passengers and carry out the associated formalities. Adequate light and sight to the spaces is provided by the light game in the space, fountains, and bamboo trees under the transparent grooves of the ceiling.
There are office spaces, passport control area, and exhibition booths in the middle space of the ground floor, and on the first floor there’s a connecting bridge between the two sitting areas. Ancillary and service spaces (such as toilets, prayer rooms, utilities) are located on the ground floor in two ends of the building; office areas are on the first floor above the service spaces.
